high school for African Americans in Buckingham County
At Ellis Acres Park, we offer free educational programs each year, including GED classes, summer programs, and adult learning opportunities. Our goal is to help individuals pursue their educational aspirations and build a successful future.

Rooted in history, Ellis Acres Park honors its beginning as Buckingham Training School for the education of African Americans. Its legacy is expanded by promoting generational growth of all residents.

Ellis Acres began as one building for 40 students. Today, it offers programs, recreational activities, and space to gather as it continues restoring and building on the foundation it was built upon.

Leadership for Tomorrow
This program helps young individuals set career goals and make steps towards that vision. With annual meetings and guest speakers, we guide young people toward a successful future.
GED Classes

Our GED Classes, in partnership with Southside Virginia Community College, help adults earn their high school diploma equivalent. Classes and testing are held at Ellis Acres.
